Strawberry And Banana Protein Smoothie Bowl

Start your day with this simple, sweet treat. I love smoothie bowls. It helps me feel a little more satisfied compared to just drinking a smoothie on the go. I like chewing my food, the delicious crunchy toppings make it more inviting.

Smoothie bowls can often have a bit of a bad rep, due to the high sugar content, lack of protein and is quite high in carbs. Fear not, this recipe, is fruity, but does not cause blood sugar spikes due to the protein and healthy fats turning it into a well- balanced meal.

Plant based protein is not only convenient, but also adds heaps of delicious flavour. If you enjoy this smoothie bowl without the protein, you might just find yourself starving an hour later or feeling low later on in the day.

We don’t need an abundance of protein, however protein in our diet helps our body function properly. Protein helps with muscle recovery and repair, keeps your metabolism and digestion working properly and help to stabilize blood sugar levels.

I don’t eat bananas everyday, due to their high sugar content. However, in this smoothie bowl recipe, the banana adds that hint of sweetness and creaminess one can’t go without.

A sprinkle of chia rounded up the bowl but adding in some extra fibre, protein and fats that helps to balance it all out.

Banana And Strawberry Smoothie Bowl

Vegan Friendly, Gluten Free, No added sugars, Paleo Friendly

Ingredients

1/2 banana cut into chunks, frozen

1 cup strawberries, frozen

1/2 cup light coconut milk

1 scoop plant based protein (low carb + contains at least 17g protein per serving)

Toppings

Fresh strawberry slices, fresh banana slices, chia seeds, coconut flakes and fresh mint

Instructions

Gently defrost the banana and strawberries, add to a blender up. Blitz and add the coconut milk. Puree until completely smooth, the mixture should be thick. Add a dash more liquid if needed to ensure the mixture is completely smooth.

Transfer to a bowl add the toppings you desire and enjoy!
