How To Take Collagen PLUS The Benefits

Collagen protein is a supplement I am always talking about, I add it into my breakfast shake, smoothie bowls or even enjoy it as a warming hot chocolate treat.

You can add collagen to anything really, it doesn’t really taste like anything.

I love it in hot chocolate, in fact I love anything chocolate! Thankfully, I have a recipe that protein packed, refined sugar free and dairy free. BONUS!

So why drink collagen?

Collagen is now trendier than ever. Everyone is talking about it, also known as a ‘superfood’.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body- found in our tendons, ligaments, skin, muscles, bones and blood vessels.

As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and we’re not consuming enough natural collagen rich sources, which is why this superfood has become so popular!

A few health benefits of consuming collagen everyday

It hydrates the skin- it helps to improve skin moisture and boost youthful, glowing skin. It can also helps to significantly improve our skins elasticity levels.

It helps to heal the gut – collagen is a powerful tool used to health the gut’s connective tissue and lining, drinking collagen frequently can help to alleviate symptoms associated with leaky gut.

It helps to repair muscle tissue- supplementing with collagen on a daily basis will help you get through your workouts stronger. Collagen contains an important amino acid called glycine which help your body produce more creatine.

It can help to improve sleep- blood sugar spikes can interfere with your quality of sleep, collagen can help to balance that out too.

Collagen hot chocolate

Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Refined Sugar Free, Superfood Enriched


1 cup non dairy milk (I like to use GMO free soy)

1 cup filtered water

2 Tbsp. raw cocao powder

1 tsp. raw honey

1 tsp. vanilla essence

2 Tbsp. pure hydrolyzed collagen powder

Optional add in- Cinnamon


In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the water, cocoa and honey. Whisk until the chocolate becomes thick.

Add the non dairy milk to the chocolate mix and whisk to combine. Do not let it boil.

Turn off the heat and add the vanilla and collagen. Whisk to combine. Serve warm.
